1:1 Tutor for Year 11 Student with ASD and MLD (GCSE Preparation)

Location:L7
Job Type:10 hours per week (IN PERSON)
Duration:Ongoing, reviewed termly

About the Role:

We are looking for a patient, compassionate, and skilled tutor to provide 1:1 tuition to a Year 11 student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Moderate Learning Disabilities (MLD) as he prepares for his GCSE exams. The successful candidate will work closely with the student to ensure that he is supported throughout his learning journey, with a focus on boosting confidence, understanding key academic concepts, and developing the necessary skills for exam success.

Key Responsibilities:

Individualised Support:Provide personalised 1:1 tuition tailored to the student’s specific learning needs and challenges, focusing on core GCSE subjects (English and Maths).
GCSE Exam Preparation:Help the student review and understand the GCSE curriculum, breaking down complex concepts into manageable tasks and ensuring he is prepared for exam conditions.
Lesson Planning:Develop and implement engaging and structured lesson plans that cater to the student’s learning style, using a variety of resources and strategies to support understanding and retention.
Progress Monitoring:Regularly assess and track the student's academic progress and tailor lessons accordingly. Provide feedback and make adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.
Emotional and Behavioural Support:Provide guidance and support to manage stress and exam anxiety. Implement strategies for emotional regulation and positive behaviour management to create a calm and supportive learning environment.
Collaboration with Family:Communicate regularly with parents and relevant staff to ensure that the tutoring aligns with the student’s wider educational plan, and to provide updates on progress.
Study Skills Development:Help the student develop key study skills, such as organization, time management, revision techniques, and exam strategies.
Encouraging Independence:Foster a sense of confidence and independence in the student, enabling him to take ownership of his learning and work towards becoming a self-sufficient learner.Essential Skills and Experience:

Proven experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Moderate Learning Disabilities (MLD), especially in a GCSE setting.
Strong understanding of the GCSE curriculum and how to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of SEN students.
Experience in creating and delivering individualized lesson plans to support students with different learning needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build a positive relationship with the student and his family.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm and supportive under pressure.
Knowledge of various teaching strategies for SEN students, including visual aids, scaffolding, and breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
Experience in managing behaviour and helping students cope with exam-related stress and anxiety.Desirable Qualifications:

Degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
Specific training in supporting students with ASD and MLD (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, or other autism-specific programs).
Experience in preparing students for GCSE exams, with an understanding of exam formats and strategies to improve performance.How to Apply:
