They are seeking a dedicated Homelessness Prevention Officer to join their team, focusing on assessing housing applications and making Section 184 decisions under the Housing Act 1996. This role involves working to prevent homelessness, providing advice and support, and ensuring legal compliance in determining housing duties.
Vacancy Brief:
* The role is that of a Homelessness Prevention Worker; this is a 3-month contract with the view to an extension.
* This is a full-time vacancy; 35 hours a week.
* Monday – Friday 9 – 5 pm
* Pay rate for this vacancy is £21.92 per hour on PAYE OR £28.15 Umbrella.
* Based in London, SE6.
* The client operates a hybrid model, with a minimum of two office days and the flexibility to work from home.
The Responsibilities:
* As a Homelessness Prevention and Assessment Officer, you will be tasked with fully investigating the circumstances of customers presenting to the Council as homeless and to determine in accordance with current legislation, case law and the Code of Guidance 2006 what duty the authority owes to them and to issue legally robust S184 decision letters accordingly.
* In your job role, you will work to prevent and resolve homelessness within the borough through the provision of confidential and impartial advice and information to customers approaching the Housing Needs Service about their housing rights and obligations under legislation and Council policy either in Council offices or other locations as required.
* As a Homelessness Prevention and Assessment Officer, you will be required to investigate landlord and tenant disputes including allegations of harassment and illegal eviction within the meaning of the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 and Protection from Harassment Act 1997, intervening and negotiating with all parties as required to prevent homelessness.
* An important aspect of your job role will be to provide information about debt counselling and money advice services to customers in rent or mortgage arrears including advice on the availability of welfare benefits and prioritizing debts, referring people to the DWP, Housing Benefit Service or CAB as appropriate.
Important Requirement:
* Successful candidate must have extensive knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act
* The successful candidate must have the ability to complete through affordability assessment and have essential knowledge of all relevant platforms
