Job Description:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other staff members to provide tailored support to students with a variety of special educational needs. You will play a key role in helping to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment that meets the individual needs of each student. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support students with special educational needs, both in the classroom and in one-to-one settings, ensuring their inclusion in all school activities.
* Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support the achievement of learning goals.
* Provide personalized learning support, adapting teaching materials and resources to meet the specific needs of students.
* Help students with various tasks, including academic work, social skills, and self-care.
* Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers, parents, and other staff members.
* Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to create strategies that support students’ learning and well-being.
* Maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
* Assist with the management of student behavior, using appropriate strategies to promote positive behavior.
* Attend meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
* Promote independence in students and help them build confidence and self-esteem.
Requirements:
* A passion for working with students with special educational needs.
* Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (desirable but not essential).
* A relevant qualification, such as a Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3) or equivalent, is preferred.
* A good understanding of SEN, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
* A flexible and adaptable attitude to working with a diverse group of students.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience supporting students with specific learning needs or disabilities.
* Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies.
* Familiarity with assistive technologies and learning tools.
* Ability to contribute to the development of IEPs and individualized support plans.
