The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Structures Inspector to join our Consulting Highways team. The role is a mix of working from home, office based and on-site visits in the Staffordshire and we welcome applicants from across the region.
Amey have been working with Staffordshire County Council (SCC) since 2014 to manage and maintain the county's highways infrastructure. We take pride in delivering exceptional infrastructure services across 6,000km of Staffordshire, ensuring roads, cycle routes, bridges, tunnels, lighting, drainage, traffic signals, trees, and land are well-maintained and improved to enhance the lives of local residents and communities.
The role
We seek a motivated Highway Structures Inspector with demonstrable experience of DMRB inspection and other standards, experience in structures management and maintenance, accompanied with a practical and progressive attitude to safety. You will be a member of the 14 strong structures team; delivering maintenance and improvement schemes to ensure all structures remain in use and fit for purpose.
Undertake structural inspection as part of the asset management function to record condition, manage risk and identify maintenance requirements to support forward delivery programmes.
Undertake General, Principal and Special Inspections in accordance with CS450 Inspection of Highway Structures and other appropriate documents in the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
Respond to customer enquiries and reports of structural damage.
Support the Structures Manager and other team members to ensure compliance with relevant technical and safety standards
Produce Safe Systems of Work in line with the Amey Zero Safety Code
Use specialist equipment to gain access over watercourses, highway and railway environments, plus the use of innovative technology to drive improvements in quality and efficiency. What you will bring to us:
Have a HND, or equivalent in an appropriate subject
Have demonstrable experience in the inspection of highway or rail structures, to identify defects and their potential cause.
Have knowledge of structural repair techniques, investigations and testing requirements.
Have achieved or working towards Inspector Level of NHSS31 Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS).
Can demonstrate sound engineering judgement in assessing structural defects.
Can manage programmes of work to ensure contract targets are achieved.
Independently write/check high quality technical reports for client submission.
Can technically support and mentor junior staff.
You are experienced in writing and operating Safe Systems of Work and undertaking Point of Work Risk Assessments.
