Our client, a leader in the highways and transportation sector, is currently seeking a Principal Highway Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This exciting opportunity involves working within the Feasibility and Client Team playing a central role in the development and delivery of major transportation schemes.

Key Responsibilities:

Development of programmes to guide schemes through the feasibility process, considering constraints on approval and delivery.
Collaborating with stakeholders, including external bodies and partner organisations, in scheme development.
Managing project teams to conduct scheme consultations with all relevant stakeholders.
Overseeing the democratic approval process for feasibility schemes, representing the Service at briefings and Committee meetings.
Preparation, submission, and presentation of reports to the Executive, offering options and recommendations aligned with the transportation objectives.
Coordinating with the Development Management Service to ensure Planning-related Highway schemes meet feasibility requirements and harmonise with other ongoing schemes.
Supporting effective budget management throughout project stages and assisting in the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of performance measures.
Developing and recommending strategies and measures to reduce the number and severity of road accidents.
Commissioning and responding to Road Safety Audits, including preparation of briefs and Designers' responses.
Supporting the values and behaviours and aiding the development of junior staff on project teams.

Job Requirements:

Extensive experience in highway engineering and project management.
Understanding of feasibility processes and stakeholder collaboration.
Strong leadership skills, with the capability to manage and coordinate project teams effectively.
Ability to navigate the democratic approval process and confidently represent the Service at meetings.
Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Strong communication skills for liaising with diverse stakeholders.
Competency in budget management and performance monitoring.
Proficiency in developing road safety strategies and conducting Road Safety Audits.
A degree/HNC/HND qualification in Civil Engineering or a related field with evidence of continuing professional development.
Awareness of political environments and the ability to address service priorities and requirements appropriately.
