Maxwell Consultancy are working closely with an innovative company based in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland. The business reduce outages and the operational cost of modern, clean power networks by providing advanced monitoring and control systems based their patented core technologies. Grid operators and clean power generators use these systems across a range of diverse environments on- and off-shore to instantly know the health and performance of their assets over unprecedented distances.
Overview of Role
The Application Engineers (AE) operate at the intersection of the engineering, sales, operations, and customer service departments and must possess strong communication abilities, proven protection and control engineering skills, and the capacity to facilitate teamwork across departments. The AE must be talented in both customer-facing tasks and detail-oriented, analytical tasks.
The principal objectives of the role are:
* To become a trusted power system protection applications consultant to internal and external customers.
* Provide technical support and guidance on all protection and control-related applications, both remotely and in person, based on sound engineering principles, practices, and standards applied in the power industry.
* Add value to customer relationships by active participation in technical discussions and negotiations and proposing commercially feasible solutions.
* Hand off commercial orders to project engineering, and support them by liaising with business partners, and end users, as and when required, to successfully deliver commercial projects.
* Maintain a high level of competency and currency in power system instrumentation requirements and existing technologies, understanding their solutions position competitively to meet customers’ requirements better.
* To ensure functional specification of technologies
* Identify future application opportunities through regular interactions with supply chain partners and end-user customers to guide business development and technology roadmaps.
* To improve credibility in power system protection applications through professional and frequent customer and stakeholder interactions using all relevant media such as proposals, bids, presentations, case studies, conference papers, and meetings.
Essential criteria
The candidate must be able to demonstrate:
* Minimum 7 years of work experience in substation, T&D, or power generation sector
* Proven track record of designing or implementing protection solutions at medium to high voltage levels
* Hands-on experience with setting up and testing of protection relays and related substation equipment.
* Working knowledge of instrument transformers, SCADA communication systems, factory and site testing and IEC 61850 standard.
* Experience in preparing and delivering high-quality technical documents, presentations and proposals to clients and colleagues
* Experience with interdisciplinary team-working within the power sector
* Self-motivation and an ability to work independently, efficiently, and rigorously including the ability to manage own time and workload
* An excellent degree in Electrical- or Power engineering
* Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills and attitude, with an ability to convey technical information in clear and simple terms
* A desire and ability to travel within the UK and abroad to meet customers and partners and to be an ambassador for a new technology
Differentiating criteria
Customer facing and technical experience in the field of power system protection equipment
Advanced protection and control system applications knowledge within T&D sector
Experience with latest power system instrumentation and measurement technologies.
Site testing and commissioning experience
Commercial acumen and ability to identify and express customer needs in a way they appreciate and respond well to.
Master’s degree in Electrical– or Power systems engineering
