Location: Shrewsbury and surrounding areas
Start Date: January start dates available!
Hours: Flexible hours, typically 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday. No weekends!
Simply Education is seeking dedicated Learning Mentors to support Primary and Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools across Shropshire. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential in a supportive and engaging environment.
Role Summary:
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students, teachers, and support staff to promote positive educational outcomes. Your role will focus on building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support their academic, social, and emotional development. Whether you are helping a child manage their emotions, guiding them through challenging lessons, or encouraging positive behaviour, you’ll be at the heart of creating a nurturing school experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one or small group support to pupils who need additional guidance with their learning or behaviour.
Help children develop strategies to overcome barriers to learning, such as low confidence, anxiety, or social challenges.
Collaborate with teachers and school staff to create and implement tailored intervention plans.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, supporting children with diverse needs, including SEN.
Monitor and report on student progress to ensure interventions are effective.
Build trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and mentor.
Promote emotional resilience and well-being, providing a listening ear and practical support where needed.
Assist in creating resources or activities that engage and motivate students.
Support school policies on behaviour, attendance, and safeguarding.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience working with children in educational, care, or mentoring roles is highly desirable.
A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting children’s needs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with students and staff alike.
Flexibility and adaptability to work with different age groups and settings.
A commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of children.
An understanding of safeguarding principles (training provided).
Driving License and access to a car is desirable due to some of our setting’s rural locations
