The last couple of years has seen Linaker grow exponentially and the technical team have been instrumental in this growth. With big plans for 2025 we’re now looking for an exceptional Technical Manager to join this stellar team and help drive the business forward.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Technical Manager you will provide technical leadership, management and development to the whole of the Linaker engineering team to ensure operational and compliance standard are exceeded. You will develop and oversee delivery of HV/LV maintenance and emergency recovery strategies. You will support the engineering team and our clients in the technical review of proposed works against industry best practice and site standards.

Additionally, you will manage, review and be the focal point our Safe Systems of Work and Safety Rules & Procedures. You will also be the subject matter expert and author of site-specific SOPs and EOPs where required and become the Company Authorising Engineer for both Electrical and Mechanical Services.

Ultimately, you will provide technical support to the wider business as directed by the Director of Operations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

Responsible for monitoring compliance against Linaker’s Mechanical and Electrical Safety Rules.

Ensure that Engineering Risks are identified, logged, reviewed, and mitigated in a consistent manner.

Ensure that all technical operations adhere to QHSE regulations and policies, aiming to exceed industry standards when possible.

Responsible for creating and updating company policy documents, ensuring they reflect organisational standards and best practices.

Provide management and control of all existing and proposed company technical accreditations and their retention.

Ensure that all technical work complies with relevant regulations, including Health and Safety, building codes and industry standards. Maintain records of compliance checks and certifications.

Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support for complex issues faced by the engineering and maintenance teams.

Analyse the current engineering and facilities management processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance productivity.

Develop and implement technical standards, protocols, and procedures for the engineering and facilities management teams.

Assist in the recruitment process, ensuring that the team has the required skills and qualifications. Organise training and development programs to improve technical competence.

Oversee the basic requirements of engineers by trade and to create a plan of upskilling

Ensure areas of individual and team development are recognised and incorporated into a suitable action plan.

Lead training initiatives ensuring practical application and real-world problem solving beyond classroom learning.

Provide technical support, including peer review, advice, guidance and incident investigation to the contract delivery team and client team. This includes but is not limited to:

Technical Innovations with the business and in support of our clients

Review and produce switching schedules where required

Management of the maintenance programme for HV and LV assets, including HV and LV shutdown activities

To become an Authorised Engineer and create a structure of Authorised Persons (APs) in the field

Have in-depth knowledge of all Electrical and Mechanical systems and be able to undertake Engineering Manager duties as & when required.

Reviewing and proposing updates to the programme in accordance with legislative requirements and buildings operational needs.

Approval of SOPs/EOPs

Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety. Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors for cost-effective solutions.

Oversee the procurement of engineering tools, equipment and services, ensuring value for money and high-quality materials.

Monitor stock levels of technical parts, tools and materials, ensuring that the necessary items are available for maintenance tasks or projects. Works closely with suppliers to order parts as required. Including calibration monitoring and recording.

Ensure that adequate resources (personnel, equipment, budget) are available for ongoing projects and operational needs.

Lead initiatives related to environmental sustainability, such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and compliance with environmental regulations.

Develop long term strategies for the company’s technical operations, considering emerging trends, technologies and regulatory changes.

Drive sustainability initiatives, helping the company meet its environmental goals while maintaining operational efficiency.

Identify opportunities to expand the range of services offered, enhancing the company’s portfolio and market competitiveness

Produce content for monthly technical bulletins for the area coaches engineer meeting and attend one per month

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Recognised apprenticeship, BTEC HNC/HND (preferably to Degree equivalent) within Electrical/Mechanical engineering or equivalent discipline or be able to demonstrate an high level of attainment.

Full Membership of a recognised sector specific Institution (i.e. CIBSE, IET IMechE).

Recognised Health & Safety qualification. i.e. IOSH / NEBOSH.

Proven experience and involvement in business-critical engineering systems.

Worked within a client contract environment requiring specific KPI performance measures.

Practical experience in working with supply partners to deliver a seamless, integrated service.

Experience of managing sites remotely through effective vendor management.

Experience in the use of CAFM systems for asset and works planning.

Proven ability to negotiate and navigate complex technical challenges.

Experience of managing mobile engineering services in multi-site client environments.

A willingness to travel as & when required to meet business needs and client engagements.
