We have a fantastic opportunity at HMP Five Wells to join the Novus education team as our Employability Tutor on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours a week.

Job description

We are recruiting for an Employability Tutor to join our education team at HMP Five Wells. You will be responsible for improving the employability of prisoners by delivering employability lessons to groups of up to 15 learners covering across the full curriculum when required. This will include contextualising delivery within classrooms and workshops to improve prisoners' knowledge and skills to enable them to be successful in finding employment on release. In this role you might be needed to cover across the whole curriculum when Required.

This is a classroom-based role, based on site. You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach which will in turn help our learners to secure future employment opportunities post-release. We always try to cater to a learner's individual needs and ensure we create a positive learner experience.

The Prison security team are always on hand to ensure the lessons run safely and smoothly. Time is available during the day to plan the lessons and your Local Education Manager is always on hand to provide support as and when needed.

Due to the nature of the establishment, all aspects of the role are carried out onsite - no more spending your evenings and weekends planning!

To be successful in the role, you will need:

A teaching qualification OR subject specialist qualification at Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) with a commitment to obtain the relevant outstanding Level 4 (Level 5 - new standards) qualification within a specified time scale (required)
Hold at least a Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A-C) qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Have a history of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour.About Novus
