English Teaching Assistant - PRU (Pupil Referral Unit), Finchley

We are looking for a dedicated English Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Finchley. This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a real difference in the lives of young people who need extra support to thrive academically and personally.

The Role:

Supporting students who have been excluded from mainstream schools or struggle with social, emotional, or behavioural challenges
Assisting in delivering engaging English lessons tailored to individual learning needs
Working closely with students in small groups or on a 1:1 basis to improve literacy, writing skills, and confidence
Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement through a patient and supportive approach
Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement personalised learning plans
Helping to create a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment

Requirements:

A strong background in English (Degree, A-Level, or equivalent experience)
Experience working with young people who have SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs or challenging behaviour (desirable)
Resilience, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students
A proactive, flexible, and empathetic approach to supporting learning
Experience in an alternative provision, PRU, or SEN setting (preferred but not essential)
