Planning Engineer – All levels (6-Month+ Contract)

Location: Manchester OR York 3 days a week with 2 days working from home

Duration: 6 months+ (with strong potential for extension)

Start Date: ASAP

Day Rates (inside IR35): Depends on experience, rates can range below:

Intermediate Planner £(Apply online only) per day

Senior Planner £(Apply online only) per day

Planning Manager - £550- £600 per day

We are seeking a Planning Engineer to join our client’s consultancy team, working on a critical rail infrastructure project focused on substation development. This is a long-term contract role with significant potential for extension, offering a chance to make a meaningful impact on major infrastructure initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

* Performance Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis of project performance against forecasts. Prepare detailed reports using tools like earned value analysis, critical path analysis, resource allocation, and look-ahead schedules.

* Dashboard Reporting: Design and implement dashboard reports to monitor progress, analyse schedules, and identify trends, thereby enhancing project maturity and decision-making.

* Contractor Assessment: Assess contractors' time impact and delay claims related to instructed changes. Provide thorough analysis to support the Project Manager in accurately handling compensation events.

* Schedule Management: Develop and maintain project schedules throughout the entire lifecycle, from Development Consent Order stages to tendering and high-level construction programming.

* Procurement Schedule Management: Regularly update and manage the procurement schedule, ensuring timely additions of new projects and providing status updates to the commercial team.

* Risk Management: Support risk assessment and analysis efforts, developing and implementing mitigation strategies to safeguard project success.

* Cost Forecasting: Collaborate with Commercial Managers to monitor and forecast schedule-related costs, making necessary adjustments through re-targeting or re-baselining.

Job Requirements:

* Experience: A minimum of 5 years in project planning, with a strong background in large infrastructure projects, particularly in the rail sector.

* Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.

* Analytical Expertise: Strong analytical capabilities in earned value analysis, critical path analysis, and schedule management.

* Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, essential for clear reporting and effective stakeholder engagement.

* Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of NEC contracts and construction programming.
