About The Position
To provide analytical services to the CASC Business Units in the Laboratory based in Brocklebank and Seaforth. Analysis will be on raw materials, in process samples and final products as supplied to customers. Additionally, support will be given to process-driven projects to increase process efficiencies and yields.
Responsibilities
• Determine the quality of raw materials, in process samples and finished products in line with internationally recognised standard laboratory procedures. (45%)
• Record laboratory data in the appropriate worksheets, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or on appropriate log sheets, maintaining and updating the LIMS system (Unilab) and laboratory specification systems in association with colleagues in other Cargill European locations. (5%)
• Performs first line preventative and troubleshooting maintenance of in-house analytical equipment with particular emphasis on HPLC, GC and ICP-OES equipment. (10%)
• Routine calibration of both laboratory and process based analytical equipment. (15%)
• Provides technical support to process teams, Technical Department, Commercial teams, and where required, external customers. (10%)
• Ensures good housekeeping is maintained within the laboratory area in adherence with 5S principles and that all operations fully comply with all company health and safety policies and procedures. (5%)
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. (5%)
• Responsible for running batch testing products. Flexibility is needed as evenings and or weekends as production runs are every 4-6 weeks. Time back will be given according to plant agreements.

REQUIREMENT
• Preferred a BSc (Hons) degree in a science-based subject with a preference for Chemistry or Analytical Science.
• Proficiency preferred in troubleshooting and maintenance of complex analytical systems such as multi-detector HPLC systems and ICP-OES.
• The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a production based industrial QC laboratory.
• A high degree of numeracy and literacy is required along with excellent communication skills. The role will involve the ability to build effective and positive relationships with both colleagues across two production sites In Liverpool as well as Commercial Department colleagues and external customers.
• Experience of working with IT systems such as Microsoft Office products and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Good organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple functions at the same time.
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
• Able to strictly follow laboratory procedures, food safety rules and environmental, health and safety regulations
