Smile Education is seeking a dedicated KS1 Teaching Assistant to support a small group of Sensory SEND students in a welcoming and inclusive primary school based in Walsall. This role requires patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting non-verbal children with complex needs.
About the Role:
Supporting non-verbal, sensory SEND students in a KS1 setting.
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored strategies.
Using sensory-based learning approaches to engage and support students.
Managing challenging behaviours with a compassionate and structured approach.
Assisting with personal care and daily routines where necessary.Requirements:
*Level 3 qualification in Childcare or as a Teaching Assistant (essential – applicants without this will not be considered).
*Recent experience supporting children with additional needs.
*Experience working with non-verbal and sensory-seeking students.
*Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or sensory integration strategies is desirable.
*A calm, resilient, and positive approach to supporting children with complex needs.
