Role Purpose:

As a Revenues Officer, you will be responsible for the accurate and prompt processing of work related to Council Tax, Business Rates, and BID Levy, from initial billing through to recovery and enforcement. You will work within a team to deliver a customer-focused service, providing professional advice and support.

Key Responsibilities:

* Determine the liable parties for Council Tax, Business Rates, and BID Levy and issue required notices promptly.

* Assess eligibility and award reliefs, discounts, and exemptions as appropriate.

* Provide advice and support to customers, ratepayers, and external partners.

* Review discounts and exemptions to maximize council revenue and reduce fraud.

* Support legal actions by attending court hearings and gathering evidence.

* Implement recovery actions for unpaid bills and process refunds for overpayments.

* Prepare cases for write-offs and trace absconders using specialist software.

* Stay updated on relevant legislation and software tools.

Generic Responsibilities:

* Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, Data Protection, and other statutory requirements.

* Promote and implement the Council’s Equal Opportunities policies.

* Use IT systems efficiently and perform any other temporary duties as required.

Requirements:

Essential:

* High standard of literacy and numeracy.

* Practical knowledge of Council Tax or Business Rates legislation.

* Experience in a local government Revenues department.

* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

* Ability to work independently and within a team.

* Ability to handle complex legislation, solve problems, and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.

Desirable:

* Experience using Northgate’s i-world application.
