Our client is the 7th largest Garden Centre group in the UK and represent a new wave of specialist horticultural and leisure retailers. They are looking to strengthen their procurement team by appointing an established category buyer for their Horticultural products, including indoor and outdoor plant range.
This is a full-time office-based role for an experienced procurement manager / buyer who will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing all categories of plants, shrubs & trees for an estate of garden centres and retail stores, negotiating with suppliers, managing inventory levels, and ensuring procurement processes align with company standards.
Key responsibilities for this buying manager role:
* Driving and developing product strategy in terms of supply base, customer base, product range and key trends
* Ensuring budget and forecast plans are met or maximised
* Negotiating with suppliers to obtain best conditions for the business in terms of product prices and trading agreements
* Reviewing range for promotable products that will best match channel, brand and department image in terms of seasonality, objectives and stock turn
* Liaising with key managers in the business in order to allow stock and sales to flow through the business in the most profitable and efficient manner
Required experience:
* Experience in sourcing and purchasing horticultural products
* Negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
* Knowledge of inventory management and procurement processes
* Strong market research and trend analysis skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently and travel to meet suppliers
* Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or related field is preferred
