We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Government Affairs Manager, to be involved in our busy corporate affairs function that is responsible for promoting our business to key political stakeholders and the media.

The successful candidate will need to have a strong interest in the energy sector, a working knowledge of Parliamentary processes, how UK Government policymaking is shaped and how to apply those principles to the development of policy asks by our business.

You will be an excellent communicator, confident in drafting materials and able to work independently across competing priorities.

With nuclear power acting as a key enabler of Net Zero, and governments across the world committing to SMR deployment programmes, it is an exciting time to join our team and help shape the way we communicate with an array of stakeholders.

Effective engagement with governments, parliamentarians, community groups and regulators is not just a nice to have for Rolls-Royce SMR – it is a core function for our business, as we seek to become the world’s leading developer of SMR technology.

There will be a variety of tasks and opportunities – from representing Rolls-Royce SMR directly to senior politicians and officials to helping to shape policies internally as well as briefing members of our Executive Leadership Team.

Our ambitions are not solely UK-focused – you will also work closely with the business development team on opportunities we are pursuing internationally.

You will need to have experience of government affairs, policy or communications experience. This would ideally be in the energy/infrastructure sectors and the successful candidate will have an interest in the energy market, its development, and the opportunity to contribute to its decarbonisation.

You will need to be able to work independently as well as within the corporate affairs team and our wider business. It is a challenging role so you will need to be able to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.

You should ideally have demonstrable experience in the following:

Experience in government affairs, policy or communications experience

Stakeholder engagement

• Managing stakeholder mapping and identifying opportunities to increase company engagement with a wide range of political stakeholders.
• Producing well-written and well-researched briefing materials, letters, and presentations for use in stakeholder interactions.
• Monitoring parliamentary activity for relevant activity on the company, the wider sector and legislation.

Policy

• Well-versed in managing and writing consultation responses on behalf of the company – working with different teams to produce compelling materials.
• Monitoring policy developments from a range of political and media channels.
• Supporting wider corporate affairs teams to shape policy positions.

Events

• Developing and delivering a comprehensive events programme – which will build awareness amongst MPs/Lords, regional politicians, industry influencers and international governments.
• Supporting in the design of events – leading on logistics, guestlists, invites and day-to-day management.

Our Application Process
