Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 17:00
Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Groundworks Site Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our civil engineering and groundwork activities on housing projects in Gloucester. This key leadership role requires a proactive and detail-oriented manager to ensure that all site activities are carried out to the highest standards, within budget, and on schedule, while maintaining the safety and compliance of the site.
As Groundworks Site Manager, you will be responsible for managing a diverse team, coordinating materials and resources, ensuring quality control, and communicating effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Management & Supervision:
Lead the daily operations of the site, ensuring tasks are completed on time and in line with project specifications.
Supervise, coordinate, and manage on-site teams, including labourers, subcontractors, and contractors.
Track and monitor site progress, addressing any delays or issues promptly.
Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring the team adheres to all site safety regulations and practices.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all groundwork activities comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions where necessary.
Prepare risk assessments and method statements for all activities and ensure compliance across the site.
Ensure all personnel are properly certified and equipped with the necessary PPE.
Quality Control & Monitoring:
Maintain the highest standards of quality for all groundwork activities, ensuring they meet both project specifications and industry standards.
Perform regular quality inspections of work completed and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
Work closely with the project manager to address technical challenges and resolve issues on-site.
Materials & Equipment Management:
Oversee the procurement, storage, and delivery of materials needed for groundwork tasks.
Ensure materials are stored safely and in line with health and safety guidelines.
Manage the maintenance and correct use of equipment and machinery on-site.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all site activities, including progress reports, materials used, and labor hours.
Provide regular updates to the project manager, highlighting progress, potential issues, and any schedule adjustments.
Submit daily/weekly reports on site conditions, safety matters, and other relevant issues.
Coordination & Communication:
Facilitate effective communication between project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
Attend and actively participate in site meetings to discuss project progress and resolve any challenges.
Collaborate with teams such as surveyors and engineers to ensure the correct implementation of groundwork tasks.
Cost Control:
Assist in managing the project budget, ensuring that groundwork and civil engineering activities remain within the allocated financial limits.
Track costs for materials, labor, and equipment usage, and promptly report any discrepancies or concerns.
Environmental and Sustainability Considerations:
Promote environmentally sustainable construction practices, including recycling and efficient resource management.
Ensure that materials are handled, disposed of, and stored in compliance with environmental regulations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent vocational qualifications or relevant experience will also be considered.
Experience: Proven experience as a Site Manager, Groundwork Manager, or in a similar role within the construction industry. Strong understanding of civil engineering practices and site safety regulations.
Certifications:
Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
CSCS Card
First Aid at Work certification
Other relevant industry certifications (e.g., NVQ Level 6 or 7 in Construction Management) are beneficial.

In-depth knowledge of construction processes, including groundwork, foundations, drainage, and civil works.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Capable of moving around a large construction site and inspecting work progress.
Occasional lifting of materials as part of site duties.
Working Conditions:
The role is based on active construction sites, requiring hands-on involvement in daily operations.
Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 07:30 – 17:00, with the potential for occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
Some travel to other sites may be required depending on project locations.
