SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

GSL Education are seeking compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join our client secondary School in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, starting as soon as possible. We are currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant, ideally with a background in Drama or Physical Education, to join our dynamic team.

The school currently works with students who have a wide range of additional needs, such as dyslexia, physical disabilities, issues with speech, language, and communication, conditions on the autism spectrum, more general learning difficulties, individuals with rare syndromes, impairments to hearing and vision, and attention deficit disorders.
SEN Teaching Assistants Responsibilities:

Provide support to children with special educational needs, ensuring all students can access education in a way that works best for them.
Support children with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural difficulties, or sensory impairments.
Work closely with the classroom teacher to adapt learning materials to the student’s needs by providing additional explanations, simplify tasks, or use alternative teaching methods.
Encourage students to collaborate and communicate with one another, and involve every student in activities.
Manage challenging behaviour, implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and reduce disruptions.
Provide help with mobility, feeding, personal hygiene, and other daily tasks.
Help students build confidence, develop social skills, manage stress, and cope with any challenges related to their special educational needs.
Support learning beyond the classroom such as organising trips or supporting extra-curricular activities.
Implement adaptations and accommodations outlined in the child’s Individualised Education Program (IEP) or EHC plan.
SEN Teaching Assistants Requirements:

Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
Relevant qualifications in education or SEN support (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
Training in behavior management and de-escalation techniques is desirable.
Experience working with children who have a variety of disabilities and/or learning difficulties, or an eagerness to go through training.
Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD and SEMH.
Confident in the delivery of pre-planned lessons and interventions.
Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
