Lab Technician - £14.83ph, plus Hol Pay – Dagenham

FOCUS OF THIS ROLE

* Assist with the preparation and implementation of experiments with insects including mosquitoes and other insects in the laboratory. This will involve exposure to insect bites.

* Assist with insectary work including rearing mosquitoes and other insects as required.

* Source materials and equipment for experiments.

* General laboratory duties, including preparation of chemicals.

* Assist with the safe and accurate conduct of projects according to quality standards.

* Assist with other administrative and research activities as required.

We are interested in hearing from Lab Technician's who have the following skills and abilities:

* Good technical laboratory skills relevant to the role; to include experience of working with insects.

* Bachelors degree in a relevant field is essential, Masters would be preferred.

* Ability to carry out accurate scientific experiments.

* Ability to cope with the physical demands of the role e.g. moving equipment and supplies, manual handling tasks and a flexible approach to working.

* Experience in laboratory technical support work in a Higher Education / Research setting.

* Competence in laboratory safety, preferably within the Higher Education / Research sectors.

* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

* Good IT skills.

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

* Demonstrable interest in science.
