Description of the Role:
Simply Education are excited to announce an opportunity for a Food Technician to join a supportive and vibrant secondary school in Salford. This is a fantastic chance for an individual with a keen interest in food preparation, safety, and working within a busy school environment. As a Food Technician, you will play an essential role in assisting the Design Technology department by supporting the delivery of food technology lessons, maintaining classroom resources, and ensuring a smooth and safe learning experience for students.
In this hands-on position, you will be responsible for preparing ingredients, managing equipment, and ensuring all health and safety standards are met in the food technology classrooms. You will work closely with the teaching team to support students in developing practical skills, helping them build confidence in the kitchen while maintaining a clean and organized environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare ingredients and set up equipment for food technology lessons, ensuring everything is ready for practical sessions.
Maintain the food technology classrooms, ensuring all tools, utensils, and resources are clean, organized, and in good working condition.
Ensure that health and safety protocols are consistently followed, including food safety, hygiene, and kitchen safety procedures.
Provide technical support to students during practical lessons, guiding them through cooking techniques and food preparation tasks.
Assist teachers in managing class activities, ensuring students are following the correct procedures and safety standards.
Monitor and manage inventory of food and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and placing orders as necessary.
Ensure that food preparation areas and equipment are cleaned and maintained to a high standard after each lesson.
Dispose of food waste in accordance with school policies, ensuring sustainability practices are adhered to.
Offer individual or small-group support to students during practical tasks, helping them develop their cooking skills and understanding of food technology.
Assist with maintaining the department’s health and safety records and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Applicant Requirements:
Previous experience as a Food Technician or in a similar technical support role, preferably in a school or educational setting.
Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and health and safety regulations in a food technology environment.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage supplies, resources, and stock effectively.
Ability to provide practical support to students in food preparation, cooking, and food presentation tasks.
Good communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and students.
A proactive, flexible approach to work with a focus on supporting the educational process.
Enhanced DBS check (we can assist with this if necessary).
A passion for food, cooking, and supporting students in a learning environment.
