Bid / Estimating Engineer

The successful candidate must possess demonstrable tendering / estimating experience within the HV power, utilities or electrical engineering sectors. This position allows for some agile working, with up to 1-2 days working from home, and the rest in the Northwest offices.

Overview

Our client now wishes to appoint two Bid / Estimating Engineers, with the main purpose of these roles will be to take responsibility for the estimation and negotiation of LV and HV construction projects within given target markets, with values typically ranging from £50k to £3m. Converting enquiries to construction orders is a key part of the role, so ideally, you will be experienced at working in a competitive contracting environment and used to delivering high quality, technically sound, presentations / bids to clients. The successful candidates will also contribute to general technical support activities, ensuring successful project assistance at the front-end stages and timely handover to operations, through to offering guidance and advice during the construction stage if required.

The Role

* Estimate, bid and secure LV and HV construction projects in a competitive contracting environment

* Produce high quality, technically sound and commercially viable presentations / bids to customers

* Help the business achieve its targets for new construction projects

* Carry out contractual / price / technical negotiations with suppliers, customers and consultants

* Forecast and report on the pipeline of construction projects

* Carry out project handovers to the operations team

* Provide commercial support to the operations team

* Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers to develop partnerships for preferential terms

* Following up estimates / bids and offering feedback, advice or guidance as required

* Attend site surveys, route walks and other meetings if necessary

The Person

* Minimum of 3 years estimating experience in the HV and / or LV sectors in a competitive environment

* HNC in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

* Good knowledge and experience of LV / HV systems including switchgear, transformers, underground circuits and protection and control

* Good understanding of CDM 2015 Regulations

* Excellent IT skills, along with advanced written and verbal communication skills

* Understanding of construction projects and electrical installation practices

* Commercial risk assessment and mitigation experience

* Experience of working directly with customers

* Knowledge of BS7671 and other relevant industry standards

* Full UK driving licence and the willingness to occasionally travel locally to sites or client meetings
