Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Non-Verbal Child - PECS and Makaton)

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a primary school located in Camden to start in January 2025. The successful candidate will work closely with a non-verbal child, utilising PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton to support their communication and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one support to a non-verbal child, facilitating communication through PECS and Makaton.
Assist the class teacher in implementing individualised education plans.
Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
Monitor and record the progress of the child, adapting support strategies as necessary.
Collaborate with the SENCO and other staff members to ensure the best outcomes for the child.
Encourage social interaction and help develop communication and life skills.
Support the child with any personal care needs as required.Requirements:

Previous experience working with non-verbal children and knowledge of PECS and Makaton.
A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children with special educational needs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, SEN qualifications) are desirable but not essential.
