Assistant Engineering Manager - Substations

Murphy is currently recruiting for an Assistant Engineering Manager to join our award-winning Energy team covering Power, Transmission & Distribution projects such as Substations. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Assistant Engineering Manager will aid the Engineering Manager to support all engineering activities both on and off site for the business unit, including the day to day management of all engineering activities and the appointment of suitable resource to satisfactorily complete those works.

Following the ‘One Murphy’ approach, we’re able to deliver all aspects of the projects we work on. Murphy has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients such as National Grid, SSE and Ørsted, on both transmission and distribution networks within the Energy sector.

What you will be doing:

Good understanding of subject matter within discipline(s). Acting as Assistant Engineering Manager on projects with consulting and engaging with Technical Leads/external engineering expertise as required,
Holistic management of projects design team and their deliverables in line with the project’s key milestones.
Ensure required quality checking/approval procedures are carried out,
Develop effective delivery process to improve the production of design deliverables to time/cost/quality,
Produce and manage RFI schedule and process, liaising directly with the design team,
Assisting the Engineering Manager in formulating project strategies and solutions,
Supervision and close liaison on Design Management and coordination across a portfolio of projects,
Preparation of scope of work for Engineering subcontracts,
Technical support to supply chain management,
Supporting Quality (Production of Design Quality Plans, providing VDDRs, reviewing ITP, attending key FATs, attending QA audits on designers)
Provide input to WBS, Pre-Construction programme creation and interfacing this with the construction programme, (integrating logic, sequencing, correct successors, and predecessors etc.)
Promote and participate in engineering innovation and BIM solutions to our clients,
Manage and actively pursue performance improvement of the engineering capability and function, assisting in establishing and implementing best practice policies and procedures for the function,
Support the business unit in work winning providing technical support in bids, with the application of engineering and design management,   

Who we are looking for:

Experience in HV Substations and HV Transmission, Civil Engineering or Oil and Gas
Relevant coordination experience in the civil, mechanical, electrical and process engineering industry 
Member of a professional engineering institution or working towards (IStructE / ICE)
Knowledge of project management process gained through successful experience of contract management.
