My client is a growing main contractor within the construction industry, with a clear strategy to expand significantly over the next three years. We have secured a substantial pipeline of contracts and are actively looking for dynamic professionals to join our team. As a company, we pride ourselves on delivering large, complex, multistorey building projects for both the private and public sectors.

The Senior Project Estimator plays a critical role in ensuring the financial success of high-rise construction projects by providing accurate and competitive cost estimates. This position is responsible for leading the estimation process, including tender preparation, value engineering, and cost optimization, while identifying and mitigating financial risks. As a key collaborator with project teams and stakeholders, the Senior Project Estimator ensures that all cost-related aspects align with the project’s objectives, from inception to completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Cost Estimation & Analysis:

Lead the preparation of accurate cost estimates for high-rise construction projects, including materials,   labour, plant, and subcontracts.

Perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost analysis for all phases of construction.

Tender Preparation & Submission:

Develop comprehensive and competitive tender proposals, ensuring they meet client specifications and deadlines.

Review project specifications, architectural drawings, and contractual documents to identify key deliverables and risks.

Value Engineering & Cost Optimization:

Provide value engineering solutions to optimize project costs without compromising quality or design intent.

Collaborate with the design team to identify and evaluate cost-effective construction methods and materials.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation:

Conduct risk assessments related to cost overruns, scope changes, and project timelines.

Implement strategies to mitigate financial risks and unforeseen costs.

Subcontractor Management & Negotiation:

Source, evaluate, and negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure best value and compliance with project timelines.

Manage the performance of subcontractors in relation to budget, quality, and timelines.

Collaborating with Project Teams:

Work closely with the project management and site teams to ensure that estimates align with project execution and timelines.

Regularly update and report on cost estimates to the project team, ensuring all financial impacts are accounted for.

Market Research & Cost Benchmarking:

Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and material price fluctuations to ensure accurate forecasting and benchmarking.

Maintain a database of historical costs and project data for future reference.

Client & Stakeholder Liaison:

Engage with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders to discuss project requirements and cost implications.

Present detailed reports and financial models to clients to support decision-making.

Project Cost Monitoring & Reporting:

Ensure that costs are monitored throughout the project lifecycle, providing ongoing financial reporting and cost control measures.

Identify and address any variances from the estimated budget during the project execution phase.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.

Membership with RICS, CIOB, or similar (preferred).

Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Asta Powerproject, CostX).

5-10 years’ experience in construction estimating, focusing on high-rise buildings.

Experience working with a main contractor on large-scale projects.

Skilled in preparing tender documents, cost plans, and value engineering.

Proven track record managing subcontractor and supplier relationships.

Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations for high-rise projects.

Familiarity with building contracts (JCT, NEC).

Knowledge of construction industry trends and market costs.

Analytical, numerical, and detail-oriented.

Proficient in reading architectural/engineering drawings.

Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple tenders and lead a team
