Vehicle Technician

Shift times: 7am to 11pm on rota (Monday - Friday; 24/7 rota to be implemented)
Pay Rates:
Monday to Friday (6am to 8pm): £20.00/hour (inclusive of holiday)
Monday to Friday (8pm to 6am): £26.00/hour (inclusive of holiday)
Job Purpose:
As a Senior/Diagnostic Vehicle Technician, you will maintain and repair our vehicle fleet, ensuring safe and efficient operation to support 24/7 healthcare services. You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical and electrical issues across various vehicles, including ambulances and patient transport vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct vehicle inspections and diagnostics
* Perform mechanical, electrical, and electronic repairs
* Use diagnostic software and tools to interpret fault codes
* Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks
* Provide technical guidance to junior technicians and apprentices
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety Regulations
* Liaise with suppliers for parts and equipment procurement
* Keep accurate maintenance and repair records
* Participate in training and development opportunities
* Mentor and support apprentices and technicians
* Carry out MOT inspections/repairs
* Communicate with clinical and operational users regarding vehicle issues
* Provide clear technical information for purchasing, maintenance, and service reports
* Perform mechanical/welding repairs as needed
* Plan and organise maintenance activities affecting other departments
* Use diagnostic tools for identifying vehicle system issues
* Identify and repair problems with engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
* Maintain compliance with policies, legislation, and standards
* Inform Workshop Manager of unplanned failures and unusual events
* Complete documentation (Job Cards, Service Sheets, Parts Sheets) promptly
* Order and receive parts from suppliers
* Maintain security of stock and equipment
* Ensure workshops and equipment are clean and functional
* Account for all used parts and equipment
* Check and maintain service centre equipment and tools
* Adhere to waste disposal regulations for vehicle maintenance
* Report risks and incidents promptly
* Maintain detailed records of diagnostic findings and repairs
* Attend mandatory training and continuous learning opportunities
* Stay updated with advancements in automotive technology
Essential Qualifications:
NVQ level 3 or equivalent in vehicle maintenance and repair
Knowledge of mechanical/electrical maintenance procedures (BTEC/HNC, City and Guilds, or equivalent)
Extensive knowledge and experience in motor vehicle safety practices
Driving Licence with C1/D1 category and experience driving larger vehicles
