I have been asked to find a Senior Quantity Surveyor for pre and post-contract commercial duties on a £40 m NEC rail (Civil Engineering) contract near Birmingham.

My client will be both self delivering and working with subcontractors on this scheme and they are looking for an experienced SQS who can successfully commercially manage this key project from start to finish.

Day to day duties and responsibilities include the following:

Pre Contract Commercial –

* the preparation of tender submissions.

* Produce ‘take offs’ in line with SMM7/NRMM2/CESMM4 guidelines.

* Manage subcontractor tenders/comparisons & produce subcontractor orders through to execution.

* Manage the commercial aspects of the early contractor involvement (ECI) for the project

Post Contract Commercial

*

* Produce applications/interim valuations for payment.

* Understand various forms of contract and administer terms when applicable.

* Production of Cost / Value Reports

* Apply for variations and amendments to the contract.

* Work closely with operational staff to maximise value and minimise costs.

* Review the accuracy of costs and correct where necessary

* Identify and manage contractual risk

* Identify and agree variation/CEs for additional work/change.

* Prepare claims for delay and loss/expense

* Ensure appropriate project records are kept (photos/emails/information)

* Forecast final P&L position

* Timely cash forecasting and cash collection

* Draft and issue contractual notices associated with delay, loss & expense and variations for review.

* Raise certification and Payment/Payless notices for subcontractors

* Review subcontract documents

* Agree final accounts up and down stream

My client is a Civil Engineering infrastructure specialist who operates successfully on a national basis. They will be undertaking elements including bulk earthworks, piling, FRC works- bridges, structures- including viaducts and groundworks.

The salary and package are also available as a daily rate equivalent and the work is scheduled to be ongoing for the next few years- my client is busy and once this contract is successfully completed there is a strong possibility that there will be further projects to deliver.

The ideal candidate will need a stable track record, a relevant degree, CSCS and have an awareness of health and safety, quality and mentoring of junior colleagues.
