Role Overview:
As a Health Care Assistant working with a male patient with a spinal injury, you will assist with both personal care and rehabilitation tasks to ensure comfort, safety, and dignity. You will work closely with the patient and a multidisciplinary care team to support daily activities, rehabilitation exercises, and mobility needs. This role requires a compassionate, patient, and flexible individual who is committed to providing the highest level of care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with personal care tasks, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
* Support with mobility and transfers using appropriate techniques and equipment (e.g., hoists, wheelchairs).
* Help with daily living activities such as meal preparation, feeding, and maintaining a clean and safe living environment.
* Monitor the patient’s physical and emotional well-being, reporting any changes to senior staff.
* Assist with rehabilitation exercises and encourage participation in physical therapy and mobility training.
* Administer medication as prescribed and assist with health monitoring (training provided).
* Provide emotional and social support, fostering a positive and supportive relationship with the patient.
* Help with household tasks, including laundry, light cleaning, and shopping as required.
* Maintain accurate records of care provided and assist with the development of individual care plans.
About You:
* Previous experience in health or social care, particularly working with individuals with physical disabilities or spinal injuries, is desirable but not essential.
* A caring, compassionate, and patient approach to care, with a genuine interest in supporting the patient’s recovery and well-being.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with the patient, their family, and the care team.
* Ability to assist with physical tasks such as mobility support and personal care tasks with professionalism and respect.
* Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the patient.
* Willingness to undertake training in spinal injury care, moving and handling, and other health and safety practices.
