Our client is a manufacturer of bespoke industrial equipment for the FMCG and retail industry across the world. They continually invest in their people and site which has seen them to now become one of the leaders in the UK for product innovation, and design concepts.

Working within an established engineering and projects team you will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and maintaining automated systems. You will leverage your expertise in PLC and HMI programming, electrical control systems, and hands-on assembly to optimize production processes. Responsibilities span the entire project lifecycle, from working with design teams and hardware specialists to site installation, commissioning, and ongoing support.

The ideal candidate will have current maintenance engineer experience within the manufacturing industry working on automated machinery with an emphasis on electrical software including PLC's, HMI's and electrical controls.

What's involved for the Automation Engineer…

Implement PLC and HMI software for various automation projects using industry-standard languages (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagrams).
Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure system integration and functionality.
Participate in the design review process and provide technical expertise on PLC, HMI, and electrical control aspects.
Specify and issue electrical hardware parts lists and control panels, ensuring compatibility with chosen PLC platforms.
Fabricate, fit, and assemble electrical and pneumatic components of various mechanical and electrical systems when required.
Perform site visits for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automation systems.
Maintain and ensure the highest standards for tools and equipment used in assembly and operations.
Test products, troubleshoot potential issues, and report malfunctions to minimize problems or recalls.
Adhere to safety standards during assembly and maintenance tasks.
Proactively communicate with colleagues, managers, and potentially customers regarding project progress and any issues.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in PLC, HMI technologies, electrical control systems.What you'll need…

Strong experience within industrial electrical engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in PLC and HMI programming for multiple platforms (e.g., Omron, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi).
Strong understanding of electrical control systems, including power distribution, motor control, and instrumentation.
Proficient in PLC programming languages like Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagrams.
Experience with electrical hardware components
Ability to read and understand product schematics, assembly instructions, and electrical drawings.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Detail-oriented, focused, and adept at problem-solving and troubleshooting.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to travel for site visits and installations.
Must be a self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
