Senior Development Management Officer

Job Salary £33,826.67 - £50,734.00 (Grade 6) plus 30 days annual leave entitlement

Job Description

·Report to a Principal Development Management Officer or a Senior Principal Development Management Officer.
·Help manager graduate Development Management Officers.
·Evening work required to meet service needs.
·No budget responsibility.
·Occasionally work across Planning, Transport Infrastructure, and Policy Planning functions.
·Work flexibly and effectively as a team member.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities

·Foster a results-oriented, customer-focused, and 'right first time' service culture.
·Perform duties with minimal supervision.
·Pursue continuous personal development through training.
·Promote equal opportunities.
·Provide high-quality planning services to customers and stakeholders, meeting evolving priorities and standards.
·Manage a portfolio of projects within various planning functions, including Development Management and Spatial Planning tasks, such as pre-application, application, and appeal work.
·Prepare and present reports and briefings to senior officials and attend meetings as required.
·Make planning assessments based on spatial policy, considering the Local Plan, Regional Plans, and the NPPF.
·Manage a complex workload and supervise junior staff.
·Collaborate with public and private bodies on land redevelopment or improvement projects.
·Handle conservation, listed building, ecological, and tree preservation matters.
·Provide technical advice and problem-solving to the public in various settings, including potentially confrontational situations.

Essential Experience

·Recognized degree in Town Planning and sufficient experience for chartered RTPI membership or related degree and eligibility for professional qualification course.
·Comprehensive knowledge of Planning Act legislation and standards relevant to the post.
·Experience in supporting and mentoring junior team members.
·Ability to assess and implement legislative or administrative changes.
·Capable of handling complex Development Management projects or Spatial Planning work under pressure.
·Proven success in innovation, initiative, and achievement in a planning environment.
·Ability to manage, lead, and motivate staff and support their professional development.
·Proficient in using Word, PowerPoint, and other software for data management.
·Responsive to community needs and customer-focused service delivery.
·Effective working relationships with colleagues and elected members.
·Proven communication skills in person, by phone, and in writing.
·Understanding and experience in promoting equality and diversity within a team and organization.
