Emtech are working with a top consultancy in London looking for an Associate Structural Engineer to join their team.

Associate Structural Engineer

To be considered for this Senior Engineer/Associate role, candidates must be Chartered. However, those who are Senior Engineers and are scheduled to take their chartership exam in the near future may also be considered, with progression to Associate level contingent upon successfully becoming chartered.

Candidates should possess a minimum of six to seven years of relevant experience in a similar environment, demonstrating proficiency in structural design. This experience should include:

Detailed design of building structures using reinforced concrete, steelwork, masonry, and timber. Candidates should be able to deliver comprehensive design solutions for a variety of structural types and complexities.
Design of glass structures, incorporating an understanding of load-bearing capacities, safety considerations, and aesthetic impacts.
Structural steelwork connection design and detailing, ensuring that all designs comply with relevant standards and are suitable for practical implementation on-site.
Temporary works design, including an understanding of load transfer mechanisms, health and safety concerns, and how temporary works integrate with permanent structures.
Technical report writing, including the ability to produce high-quality letters and reports that convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Site inspection and surveys, including a demonstrated ability to identify issues, assess the condition of structures, and recommend appropriate remedial actions.

Additional Experience (Preferred but not Essential):

Experience with modern software tools for structural analysis and design.
Familiarity with sustainability considerations in building design, such as energy efficiency and the use of eco-friendly materials.
Knowledge of seismic or wind-load analysis, especially if working on structures in areas prone to extreme weather or environmental conditions.

Other Responsibilities and Skills

In addition to technical expertise, candidates must also have strong leadership and management capabilities. Associates are expected to:

Lead project teams: Manage and mentor a small group of engineers and technicians, overseeing the delivery of projects from inception to completion.
Client-facing responsibilities: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring projects meet their requirements and are delivered on time and within budget.
Fee proposals and invoicing: Prepare and manage fee proposals, ensuring profitability and value for money. Candidates should also have a good understanding of invoicing processes and financial management.
Business development: Be proactive in identifying new opportunities for work, including building a professional network, and eventually securing your own projects.
