Reporting to the Managing Director, the Head of Maintenance will be a key member of the senior leadership team and will play a vital role in the contribution to the success and future strategy of Pennine Aggregates operations.
This role will deliver continuous improvement in safety, health & environment, equipment reliability and overall maintenance costs of the aggregate’s operations whilst building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
The Waterswallows site has recently launched a Preventative Maintenance program to increase equipment reliability. The Head of Maintenance will lead the culture change and ensure the successful delivery of the program.

Key aspects of the role will be:
Promote a zero-harm safety culture within the site maintenance team.
Lead and manage the site Reliability program to understand equipment failures and downtime by initiating Root Cause Analysis to identify actions to prevent recurrences.
Embed the site Preventative Maintenance program by ensuring the correct strategies are in place and followed to increase equipment up-time.
By using the site Capacity Planning tool, create, review and execute the weekly maintenance plan and by using a suite of KPIs report execution accuracy.
Efficiently and risk based, manage the equipment spares inventory with accurate stock list highlighting critical spares and total cost of inventory.
Develop the maintenance staff through alignment of team capabilities, talent identification and execution of personal development plans.
Support the site development projects to achieve the plant improvement and expansion program.
Ensure robust contractor management by rigorous selection based on competency assessment, detailed review of RAMS prior to task commencement and careful monitoring of work activities whilst on site.

Key Accountabilities and Deliverables
Safety, Health & Environment
* Provide Leadership and guidance to foster positive mindsets and behaviors in relation to Health, Safety and Environmental issues ensuring this culture is embedded within the workforce.
* Lead by example to build an environment of trust within the maintenance team to encourage open and honest discussions and reporting of issues in a timely manner.
* Ensure the safe execution of maintenance tasks through a robust risk assessment process and provision of safety permits-to-work. Work activities will be monitored and verified to help achieve zero-harm.
* Ensure all site statutory inspections and requirements are completed as required and corrective actions implemented in a timely manner.
* Ensure a robust contractor management process is adopted and followed making sure contractors and external providers are selected based on competency and experience. Review and approve RAMS prior to contractor work commencing and provide work activity monitoring whilst site work is taking place.
Maintenance Practices
* Monitor equipment reliability and develop pareto charts to report equipment downtime highlighting areas of priority and focus with corrective actions.
* Carry out maintenance studies (FMEA) to identify the relevant strategies on equipment not already included in the Preventative Maintenance program and update the site Equipment Risk Analysis & Capacity Planning Tool
* Hold regular meetings with the maintenance team members, both collective and 1-2-1 to build trust and encourage open two-way communication.
* Use all available reliability and stoppage data to carry out downtime analysis, supported by Pareto, to produce reports for presentation to the senior leadership team.
Workflow, Planning & Control
* Ensure all equipment defects reported go through a robust maintenance planning process ensuring spares, equipment and all resources are available. This will include tasks to be completed during the annual maintenance shutdown.
* Lead a cross-functional scheduling meeting to develop a robust weekly maintenance plan based on plant priorities including PMs and corrective maintenance tasks.
* Adapt quickly to any changes in plant priorities by realigning maintenance resources in the event of unplanned breakdowns
* Use a suite of KPIs to monitor and report maintenance performance leading to a celebration of success or corrective actions.
Cost Control
* Have a full visibility of maintenance costs with a breakdown of actual spend Vs budget for monthly reporting to senior leadership team.
* Progress the site critical spares requirements based on the Equipment Risk Analysis findings with total cost of spares holding
Continuous Improvement
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the maintenance department and empower team members to develop their ideas to improve safety, efficiencies, cost etc.
* Lead failure analysis on significant safety/health/environmental issues and unplanned equipment downtime > 4 hours to understand the root cause and corrective actions to prevent a recurrence.
* Play a key role in the development of site major engineering projects to validate plant lay-out, equipment selection, safe access for maintenance activities etc.
* Evaluate the need for investment in a site Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
People Development
* Ensure maintenance staff have the training and capabilities required to safely complete the site work activities.
* Ensure team member have an opportunity on an annual basis to discuss their individual development needs and actively facilitate any agreed development areas.
Qualifications
* Engineering Degree or equivalent
* NEBOSH certification or equivalent (desirable)
Experience
* Experience of implementing a Preventative Maintenance program and managing the culture change process
* Proven experience of leading and developing maintenance teams through SMART goals and objectives
* Proven management experience in maintenance best practice
* Proven delivery of engineering projects
