About the role: SSA: We are seeking a passionate and proactive Student Support Assistant (SSA) to join our dedicated team at a large college in Southgate, Enfield. This exciting opportunity is ideal for those who are eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. As a Student Support Assistant, you will work closely with learners aged 16-24 in the LLDD (Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities) department. The students you’ll support have a range of needs, including PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities), MLD (Moderate Learning Disabilities), physical difficulties, and autism. Many students also have EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans), so your role will be crucial in helping them achieve their goals.

Your main focus will be embedding strategies and adjustments into Teaching, Learning, and Assessment practices, providing in-class interventions. You will work alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) and other specialists to support the students, ensuring that their communication, ICT, English, and maths skills are developed in line with their needs. Some students are non-verbal and use communication aids such as tablets and visual cards. Personal care support may also be required, so candidates with a background in care are highly encouraged to apply.

About the college: This large, vibrant college is well-known for its inclusive environment and outstanding SEN support. It offers a wide variety of courses across three state-of-the-art campuses, catering to over 13,000 students. The Southgate campus is not only a hub for education but also enjoys a great location on a bustling high street, just a five-minute walk from Southgate Tube Station on the Piccadilly Line.

Application Requirements:

• Previous experience working with young adults or individuals with SEN.
• Experience in personal care or a background in care services is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of learning disabilities, particularly PMLD, MLD, and autism.
• Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
• A commitment to supporting the personal and academic growth of students with learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities: Student Support Assistant:

• Identify and assess individual student support needs, embedding strategies to aid their academic progress.
• Provide tailored interventions focusing on ICT, English, and maths skill development.
• Collaborate with SLTs and other specialists to offer consistent, effective support to students with learning and physical disabilities.
• Assist non-verbal students with communication tools such as tablets and visual aids.
• Support students with personal care tasks, including toileting and hygiene, as necessary.

Perks and Benefits:

• Competitive pay of £85-£110 per day.
• Opportunity to work in a modern, well-equipped college with a strong focus on SEN support.
• Professional development and CPD opportunities to help you grow in your career.
• Supportive team environment where your contribution truly makes a difference.
• A great work location, just minutes from Southgate Tube Station, in a vibrant area with access to local amenities.
