Simulink Design Development Engineer
Warton, Lancashire (4 days per week onsite) – could also work from Bristol, Derby, Brough or Yeovil – 12 month duration – Pay rate £60 p/h PAYE basic (£68.72 p/h including holiday) or £79.17 p/h Umbrella
Our client is engaged in a critical role on the Dreadnought submarine programme to develop the functional design of the Active Vehicle Control System (AVCS), the system used to drive and manoeuvre that boat. The work uses Model Based Systems Engineering MBSE techniques at scale on a safety critical system.
We currently have vacancies for Engineers with Simulink skills to work in Displays & Controls, Data and system health management. You will be responsible for the functional design and development of the Display, Health & Data Management functionality, working in one of the delivery work stream teams as part of the AVC Functional Software organisation. You will be involved in aspects of the concept, requirements definition, detailed design and development to delivery.
The successful candidate will be expected to have ability across the Engineering Lifecycle, knowledge of the Display, System Health and Data Management is desirable, including an appreciation of software development and modelling & simulation. Additionally, the candidate should be comfortable working in a model based development environment using Agile techniques and have excellent communication skills.
Your main responsibilities as a Simulink Design Development Engineer will involve:
Model Based Design (MBD) development and integration of the System, including interfacing with the Control & Instrumentation (C&I), Platform Mechanical and Software work streams. In this role the jobholder shall be responsible for some or all of the following:
Understanding and capturing system control requirements, working closely with stakeholders.
Produce control model concepts, then detailed design models and test harnesses.
Verify and Validate textual requirements in preparation for delivery.
Documenting the design.
Contributing to safety analysis of the products.
Maintain consistent communication across the AVC ‘One Team’ construct.
Develop and harmonise processes in line with Maritime and Air Sector policies.
Capture Learning From Experience (LFE).
Requirements:
Demonstrable knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle with ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work.
Knowledge in Display & Controls, Systems Health and Data management related Systems Engineering, preferably in a marine or aerospace application, or in a similar engineering or technology focussed industry.
Competence in Mathworks tools to apply Model-based systems engineering principles, tools and techniques (primarily Simulink and its Test).
Capable in Microsoft Office packages and an ability to develop competence with more specialist toolsets as necessary.
Ability to apply previous learning and experience to offer guidance, support and coaching to others.
Ability to effectively research system design data and apply to complex problems.
Excellent communication skills to support interfaces across a number of delivery work stream.

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the projects involved, all candidates must be capable of gaining a UK MOD Security Clearance to SC level. If you are not currently SC cleared the client will sponsor a new application and you can start once the clearance is granted.
This role shall operate inside IR35.
