About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

A varied role supporting Haringey's Waste Service's key functions and income streams, including all administrative, asset management, customer relations, invoicing and low level debt management responsibilities within our commercial bin hire venture and internal waste services portfolios. You will provide office-based support for other income-generating initiatives and enforcement campaigns the Team undertakes within their remit.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our contract orders match expected charges, help manage a timely response to service complaints and Member enquiries, and you will be trained up to become our lead advisory officer for all bin capacity allocation queries and the suitability of waste provisions submitted via planning applications.

The role requires a 'can-do' attitude with an aptitude for seeing opportunities and understanding how information technology can be used to improve efficiency, data collation/sharing and reporting. You may be required, from time-to-time to arrange meetings and take minutes.

Working for Haringey:

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.

Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement up to 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and well-being support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.

Please note: we reserve the right to end this advert before the noted deadline if we receive sufficient applications. If you wish to apply for this role, please ensure that you do so as soon as possible.

About You

You are a proactive and self-motivated individual who thrives in an environment where you can take ownership of your work and achieve goals with minimal supervision. You have a keen eye for identifying inefficiencies and are confident in proposing practical solutions to improve processes.

Your commitment to excellence extends beyond your role; you genuinely care about the well-being of our residents, the reputation of the council, and the satisfaction of our customers who rely on our non-statutory services.

With strong proficiency in standard office software, including spreadsheets and word processors, you are quick to adapt and learn new IT systems and processes. Your aptitude for technology and attention to detail ensures that you can effectively contribute to the team's success from day one.

About the Team

The Waste Services Team ensure all of Haringey's streets are cleaned to an acceptable standard and that all residents' recyclable and non-recyclable waste is collected to a predetermined schedule. Responsibilities include the management of contracted services that clear fly tipping, graffiti and fly posting, whilst ensuring a range of commercially traded services meet their projected performance targets.

This is an exciting and challenging time for the local authority waste sector. The council has set itself some extremely tough milestones to achieve, with a focus on expenditure reduction and recycling rate ambitions. You will join a hard-working, collaborative team in which every members efforts and ideas are valued and contribute to successes
