Mechanical design engineer role working for a well established firm based in Leicester.

Job Summary -

Responsible for acting as a Mechanical Engineer on a selection of projects, including responsibility for the Mechanical Design, reporting up workloads and priorities, internal project coordination, administration and some client liaison. Responsible for acting as a Mechanical Engineer of the project team, including responsibility for the design and design quality. Responsible for assisting the project lead in advising on the resourcing and workload within the projects Mechanical team, setting/managing design goals with project senior, attending weekly team meetings and assisting in seeking ways of improving the efficiency and productivity of the team. Promote the business ‘can-do’ attitude ensuring this is instilled in every project and imparted by all within the design team.

Duties -

The Engineer proves ability to operate on multiple projects and organise themselves to meet all assigned deadlines agreed with the project lead. The Engineer is responsible for full detailed mechanical design and should expect to complete these exercises on own with support from the project lead. The Engineer is responsible for calculation works to prove design for domestics, ventilation, heating and cooling systems. The Engineer is to coordinate design with electrical design members. The Engineer is to feed into design team meetings with some attendance where required, where applicable alongside project lead and report back to the wider design team on progress and actions. The Engineer is to manage personnel design work loads providing completed works to the Project lead for QA in a timely manner. Dates should be agreed with project lead and aligned with client target dates to ensure timely issue of information. The Engineer constantly seeks ways of improving the efficiency of their work and of their team.

The Engineer is to continually seek to adopt the most UpToDate practices and to be innovative in their application. The Engineer is to assist sustainability engineers with modelling input data and criteria, this should also include the review of completed reports issued by the department for correctness. The Engineer shows great involvement in teamwork and promote consultation and collaboration with their team fellows. The Engineer is to contribute with the development of junior team members. The Engineer shows interest and seeks ways of developing their knowledge in other engineering disciplines. The Engineer is to ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed. The Engineer is to actively participate to the design verification process within the team, including self checking their own work prior to issuing for QO to the Senior and QA checking Graduate engineers work.

Technical Ability -

The Engineer is to have a working understanding of current building regulations, CIBSE documentation, British standards, BSRIA documentation and all other general design guides associated with the building services industry. The Engineer is to be IT literate, and must have working knowledge of office and design experience in CAD and/or Revit. HEVACOMP experience would be advantageous.

The engineer is as a minimum to be working towards Member of CIBSE accreditation. We would expect a minimum 2 - 3 years’ experience in the associated specialism to be required for the candidate to be suitable for the role. This would generally ensure sufficient exposure to all technical aspects of the role and understanding of the industry.

Marketing -

The engineer is to ensure clients are satisfied with the levels of performance and quality of service provided. Client’s concerns and problems are acted upon and resolved in a prompt, efficient and courteous manner. The Engineer is to ensure good working relationships are established and maintained, and the Client’s current and future needs are assessed and acted upon.

Relationships -

Report to the Senior Engineer or project/business Director. Collaborate with the Mechanical and Electrical engineers within the Project Team, with technical support from the Senior Engineers or Project/Business Director connected to the project(s).

Salary to be determined according to candidates experience, skill and whether or not they fit into the current team.

Hybrid role, will include at least three days in office, with at least one day a week (usually Friday) working from home
