As a Housing Options Officer, you will play a critical role in delivering expert housing advice and homelessness prevention services. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will assess applicants' housing needs, provide person-centered support, and work to prevent homelessness wherever possible. The role involves advising individuals who may be facing a range of complex social challenges, such as domestic abuse, mental health issues, substance misuse, and more.
You will hold a diverse caseload, applying a sound understanding of relevant legislation to make informed decisions and maintain accurate records. The Role
·Offer tailored advice on housing options and homelessness prevention, meeting the needs of individuals and families with varied and complex circumstances.
·Conduct thorough legal assessments, maintain detailed records, and develop personalized housing plans to support households in need.
·Chair multi-disciplinary case meetings, liaise with housing providers, and collaborate with services to address issues related to child protection, domestic abuse, and safeguarding.
·Participate in a duty rota, handle contentious housing inquiries, and deliver support through multiple channels - online, face-to-face, and in community settings.
·Stay up-to-date with legislation and best practices, ensuring compliance with Council policies and safeguarding standards.
The Ideal Candidate
·You have substantial experience working with vulnerable individuals and households, including victims of domestic abuse, those with mental health challenges, or other social issues. You are comfortable managing caseloads and have a proven track record of providing professional housing advice.
·With strong interpersonal skills, you are adept at negotiating, solving problems, and working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team. You're known for your empathy, tact, and ability to handle challenging situations effectively.
·Up-to-date with relevant housing legislation and best practices, you apply this knowledge to deliver high-quality services that align with Council policies.
·Ideally, you hold a Level 4 Diploma or equivalent experience in housing or a related sector.
