Instrumentation Engineer - Defence and Military Systems
Permanent - Attractive - 18 Month FTC
A Instrumentation Engineer is required to join an International Defence Systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports world leading military Systems. The successful Instrumentation Engineer will work closely with the engineering Subject Matter Experts and the Trials Team to undertake trials planning, with the focus of defining & documenting instrumentation requirements.
The Instrumentation Engineer will ensure the selected instruments meet all trials needs through a combination of interrogating product data sheets and bench testing equipment.
The Instrumentation Engineer role is based from the West Midlands site although the candidate should expect significant amounts of travel, to various locations around the UK and abroad.
Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for the following:
Work closely with the Instrumentation Lead, Trials Managers and Subject Matter Experts.
Ensure instrumentation is correctly specified, and capable of functioning as required.
Contribute and write instrumentation plans for trials, including Trials Readiness Reviews.
Ensure instrumentation is correctly specified to meet the accuracy, resolution & calibration.
Work at a range of test sites to ensure instrumentation & data acquisition needs are met.
Manage test equipment on trials sites in line with relevant Security, Data & Asset Plans.
Ensure all instrumentation is available, maintained & calibrated for the duration of the trials.
Ensure provision of spares stock on trials locations, arranged through Instrumentation Lead.
Ensure measurement equipment are installed correctly as per trials instrumentation plans.
Ensure equipment installed such that it is mechanically secure and electrically safe.
Responsible for gathering accurate and repeatable data for the trials as per the Test Plan.
Manage the production 7 storage of data in line with Data Management & Security Plan(s).
Contribute towards Daily Trials Reports from an instrumentation perspective.
Contribute experience towards the purchase of new test equipment through trials process.
Ensure all applicable military standards and Subject Matter Expert requirements.
The Instrumentation Engineer should have the following Qualifications Skills or Experience:
Must hold a Full UK Drivers Licence and qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience in verification and validation activities, preferably on mobile machinery.
Experience with instrumentation for firing, sighting & mobility trials is desirable.
Experience with the specification, installation and operation of data acquisition equipment.
Knowledge of 24V systems, safe electrical working practices & fault finding are essential.
Working knowledge of CAN bus, Ethernet, electrical power & communication technologies.
Working knowledge and experience of utilising various sensors such as accelerometers.
Working knowledge of strain gauges, temperature sensors, current clamps etc. is desirable.
Familiarity with or similar, hardware & software such as Dewesoft, IMC, Racelogic VBox.
Familiarity with MOD sites and policies including Range Standing Orders etc. is an advantage.
You must have strong technical report writing, verbal and IT communication skills.
A strong work ethic and good team working skills are required.
Willingness to travel extensively within the UK and abroad.
**Security Clearance (SC) will be required due to the nature of the Defence products involved**
