Our marine client requires a Training Officer to join their team in Liverpool. As a Training Officer you will be responsible to ensure all port plant & refresher training within the terminal is carried out to a professional standard, maintained and updated in accordance with the relevant Regulations. As a Training Officer you will also be involved in promoting Health, Safety and Environmental awareness within the terminal where it interacts with training.

Hold a RTITB or ITSSAR qualification OR be willing to work towards this.

*

Have a minimum of 12-month experience training tug and other port related machinery.

*

It is important you are a team player with a good work ethic.

*

You will have a good knowledge of Health and Safety; preferably with an IOSH qualification.

*

Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

*

Your IT skills must be at a good level (MS Office and databases).

*

A flexible approach to work is necessary as you will be expected to cover when required

JOB DESCRIPTION

*

To have the day-to-day responsibility for all activities of port plant & refresher training for existing staff on appropriate heavy and medium duty machinery within the terminal.

*

This training should be carried out to professional standards required by the RTITB and/or ITTSAR. This may include working outside of normal recognised hours. i.e. nights, weekends and bank holidays.

*

To ensure that all existing staff have been certified to drive the appropriate heavy and medium machinery within the terminal. This must be carried out before the expiry of the current certificate.

*

To assist the Terminal Operations Manager in the current and future planning of training requirements over a rolling twelve-month period. To ensure that such plans are carried out one rolling year in advance.

*

To assist, where appropriate/necessary in the training of contract staff on all equipment as required and to audit the contractors on their training standards. This will predominantly be vehicle handling (cars, vans, chassis, etc.)

*

To regularly review the current procedures and processes of Training programmes for both manual and skilled employees and to update those programmes as required.

*

To carry out all administrative tasks allied to the position and to ensure that all records are kept updated and maintained in a professional manner and the system is audited.

*

To keep updated on any legislative changes appertaining to Training matters within the company and assist in advising staff of any changes as appropriate.

*

To be involved (and where appropriate participate) in Senior Safety Meetings and to actively make recommendations for improvements in training.

*

To ensure that your professional training qualification, this being RTITB and /or I.T.T.S.A.R is maintained kept updated within the due date.

To carry out investigations when required to do so; especially where trainer’s competencies are required.

*

To assist all drivers to reach and maintain a competent standard to enable them to pass their driving tests on all vehicles as appropriate (skilled to do so). Showing care, compassion and leadership and be able to identify the on-going competencies of all operators. Once done, to maintain such a standard.

*

Display and communicate safety information, where it relates to training, from periodicals, notices and posters on the safety notice boards.

*

Identify training subjects for heightened awareness and ensure that toolbox talks have been carried out on the same.

*

To assist the Terminal Operations Manager in reviewing risk assessments where training is used as a control measure.
