This role involves delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions, from planning through to full implementation. A primary focus will be on developing foul and surface water drainage strategies, alongside preparing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs). A solid understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) is essential, as is familiarity with the design process from initial concept through to construction for drainage and flood alleviation projects.

The Water Team provides advisory services to both public and private sector clients on flood risk planning and design, including detailed designs for flood protection, SuDS, and sewerage systems across residential, retail, industrial, commercial, and public sector developments throughout the UK.

Principal Accountabilities

Candidates should have 1 to 4 years of experience. The position will involve managing projects day-to-day, preparing FRAs, conceptual designs for flood protection measures, and drainage strategies that support planning applications and construction drawings. Site visits may be necessary to inform project direction. This is a client-facing role, and active management of multiple projects or client accounts will be required. You'll support senior staff and verify technical work, as well as assist with fee proposals. Key responsibilities include producing FRAs, designing foul and surface water/SuDS systems, and implementing SuDS using the MicroDrainage software package. Familiarity with software like InfoWorks, ICM, Flood Modeller, and QGIS is advantageous.

You will report to a Technical Director or Director.

Preferred Competencies/Skills

Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments for Flood Zones 1, 2, and 3
Development of complex foul and surface water drainage strategies incorporating SuDS techniques (suitable for outline/detailed planning and Section 104 submissions)
Expert knowledge of MicroDrainage software
Conceptual and detailed design of flood mitigation works
Drafting water-related chapters for Environmental Statements
Project management
Strong written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a teamExperience with river modeling software, MAP-Info, and/or QGIS is beneficial. Knowledge of sewer design using MicroDrainage (or similar software) and experience applying Sewers for Adoption/Sewerage Sector Guidance will be expected.

Knowledge

Proficiency in preparing drawings for FRAs, knowledge of current policies (NPPF, PPG, FWMA 2010, WIA 1991), sewerage strategies, and Section 104 Agreements are ideal.

Previous Experience

Candidates with a background in consultancy, particularly in private sector work, will be well-suited to this role.
