Elvet Recruitment is partnering with a national specialist contractor to recruit a Group HR Officer for their Head Office in Northumberland.

As part of this family-run business, the successful candidate will report directly to the HR Director and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the HR function. What You’ll Be Doing:

In addition to the core responsibilities typically associated with this role, the Employee may occasionally be required to undertake additional duties as necessary to support the Employer’s business needs, including tasks within the Thompson Group.

- Provide comprehensive generalist HR support to the business.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for HR-related inquiries.

- Oversee the Time & Attendance (T&A) clocking system and manage absence records.

- Assist with the administration of absence management across the group.

- Monitor and track sickness, holidays, and other absence-related matters.

- Monitor employee attendance and punctuality.

- Manage the company’s performance appraisal system and follow up as required.

- Administer performance appraisals and reviews, ensuring that development plans are executed.

- Conduct Return to Work interviews and implement any necessary actions.

- Arrange Occupational Health referrals and follow-up meetings.

- Assist with Capability/Incapacity hearings and support in implementing outcomes.

- Monitor, review, and support health surveillance outcomes.

- Prepare and conduct new starter inductions as needed.

- Facilitate exit interviews as required.

- Develop, maintain, and communicate HR strategies for the business.

- Prepare documentation for any variations in terms and conditions of employment.

- Update and maintain job descriptions.

- Assist with various HR initiatives, activities, and projects.

- Maintain an up-to-date, confidential filing system for personnel records.

- Support the company's communications plan.

- Ensure the HR database is accurate, up-to-date, and complies with relevant legislation.

- Review and update company policies and procedures in line with current legislation.

- Assist with the planning, delivery, and evaluation of both in-house and external training, including the apprenticeship levy.

- Collaborate with managers on future employment plans and skill gap analysis.

- Assist with the recruitment process across the company.

- Review and update the company handbook and policies as necessary.

- Support audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

- Assist the Social Value Champion with the company’s social value strategies, including attending school career events, educational visits, and community engagement.

- Attend relevant conferences and seminars as part of professional development.

- Serve as a Mental Health First Aider.

- Provide support to the workforce community.

- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

- Apply a solid understanding of employment law and HR best practices.

What We’re Looking For:

We are looking for a proactive candidate who takes initiative and is ready to contribute effectively to the HR function.

- Previous experience in a generalist HR role

- Completed or be working towards CIPD Level 5

- Experience using HR systems

- Mental Health First Aid

Role Details:

- Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00

- Salary: £38,000 to £40,000 per annum

- Pension: Salary sacrifice scheme

- Holidays: 22 days + 8 bank holidays
