General Manager – Defence (292jc) – Middle East – Outstanding Package.
My client who is based in the Middle East is looking to establish their own Military Industrial complex for the future and are now seeking to recruit a GM – Defence to become a key member of the team.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
You will be reporting the Vice President – Defence, and you will oversee all trading operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations while driving strategic growth and profitability. This role demands a strong understanding of defence market dynamics, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to develop robust relationships with stakeholders.
You will be leading a team of professionals, implement trading strategies, and analyse market trends to position the company for sustained success in a competitive environment.
So, in this role you will have a number of key responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement comprehensive trading strategies aligned with company goals.
- Prepare and present regular reports on trading performance and market conditions to executive leadership.
- Monitor and manage trading budgets, forecasting financial performance and optimizing resource allocation.
Team Development:
- Recruit, train, and develop a skilled workforce, focusing on building local human capabilities within the defence sector.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork within the team’s environment.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities for staff.
Operational Oversight:
- Oversee daily trading operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure adherence to ethical standards and best practices within trading operations.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones and deliverables are met efficiently.
Business Development:
- Engage in proactive business development activities to secure new deals and partnerships.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Establish direct contact with end users to understand their needs and enhance service offerings.
- Attend industry conferences and events to network and promote the company’s capabilities and offerings.
Project Management:
- Execute won tenders/projects, ensuring effective project management from initiation to closure.
- Oversee procurement of products and services for projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Conduct post-deal evaluations to assess performance and identify lessons learned for future transactions.
Negotiation and Compliance:
- Identify and negotiate profitable deals that enhance the company’s competitive position in the market.
- Prepare and oversee responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) or any form of requests from regulators or prospective customers (such as RfQs, RfIs etc…) ensuring alignment with corporate policies and strategic objectives.
- Review and analyse contract terms to ensure favourable conditions for the company.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of trading professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Analyse market trends and data to identify opportunities for growth and risk management.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of potential business opportunities, tracking progress and outcomes.
To be eligible for this role, you will need the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in military, Defence, Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of senior-level experience in the trading sector within the defence industry, with a proven track record in managing trading operations and developing strategies that align with corporate objectives.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams, with experience in recruiting, training, and developing a skilled workforce focused on building local human capabilities in the defence sector.
- Strong understanding of market dynamics, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards relevant to trading operations in the defence sector.
- Proven experience in strategic planning and financial management, including budget oversight and forecasting financial performance to optimize resource allocation.
- Exceptional negotiation skills, with a track record of identifying and securing profitable deals and partnerships that enhance the company’s competitive position.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyse market trends and performance data to inform decision-making and identify growth opportunities.
- Experience in managing projects from initiation to closure, ensuring timely delivery of products and services while adhering to corporate policies and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Proven capability in preparing and presenting performance reports and strategic insights to executive leadership, facilitating informed decision-making.
- Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork within the trading environment, with experience in conducting performance evaluations and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in attending industry conferences and events to network, promote company capabilities, and stay informed on market developments.
- Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as assigned by senior management to support overall business objectives.
As this is almost a Green Field site, they are seeking someone who has gained a lot of experience in this sector, maybe working for one of the Global Military Manifactuing companies and is seeking to use their skills and knowledge to help this company develop their own sector based within the next 10 – 15 years. Preference would be for someone who has significant experience within the Middle East in a similar type of role.
In return they are offering an excellent package which will be made up of Salary, Housing and Transport allowances, as well as the ability to be married accompanied. But please note that you will be hired under their local laws and regulations.
