A post-16 to 25 college in Camden with a large provision for students with MLD, SLD, Autism and behavioural needs are looking for Learning Support Assistant to join their team to support a student on a 1 to 1 basis.
The Role
In this Learning Support Worker & Multi-Sensory Intervenor role you will be supporting a student who has multi-sensory difficulties on a 1 to 1 basis. The student requires personalised support to access learning and development sessions throughout the college day. They predominately use Makaton to communicate and therefore this is a key requirement for the role.
Your role will include:
Providing tailored, one-on-one support using Makaton, assistive technology and learning resources.
Collaborating with teaching staff to adapt and deliver activities
Assisting the student with study skills, time management, and organisation
Promoting independence, confidence, and social skills both inside and outside the classroom.
Monitoring and recording progress, providing feedback to teaching staff, support teams and parents
The successful candidate will undertake five days training provided by the Local Authority prior to starting the position.
Person Specification:
Experience in SEND / Support work
Experience in multi-sensory support (hearing and visual impairment support).
Must be proficient in Makaton
Lively and energetic approach
Committed attitude
This role is offered on a full-time (5 days a week) basis and whilst initially offered on a contract basis will become a permanent position for the right candidate.
The Centre
This specialist centre is based in Camden is part of a larger post-16 London college. The centre currently provides education and care support to around 50 young people aged 16 to 25 with profound and multiple or severe learning difficulties, complex autism and/or physical difficulties. There is a dedicated and experienced management and staff team in place at the centre and they have excellent training and development programmes. The centre operates during term-time only and is easily accessible via public transport.
The Centre are open to applications from both experienced learning support assistants/support workers and those with a positive and caring attitude looking to pursue a career supporting young people in Special Educational Needs.
