Tendering Engineer (Automation)

Role overview:
This role focuses on supporting the tendering function in delivering a broad range of automation solutions for clients in the energy sector. Reporting to the Head of Sales, you will either lead or work alongside the bid lead and business head to manage each tender opportunity. Responsibilities include completing pre-qualification and proposal documents, identifying and detailing solutions to meet client needs, preparing cost estimates, and addressing client queries. Success in this role requires familiarity with SCADA, HMI, PLC, and DCS technologies, along with a solid understanding of project lifecycles, including design, implementation, testing, site installation, and commissioning. You'll analyse client requirements, develop solutions, and identify suitable suppliers as needed. Occasional travel to customer or supplier sites is expected, either independently or with relevant sales or business development colleagues.
The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise and experience in automation, covering software, hardware, or electrical engineering, within a solution delivery or sales environment.
Job responsibilities:
Partner with Business Development Managers (BDMs) to provide technical support, including automation and control system architectures, cost estimates, and more.
Ensure compliance with internal bid governance and tendering processes.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with technology providers to stay updated on the latest technologies and deliver compliant, cutting-edge solutions.
Conduct surveys at customer sites to identify scope, scale, and implementation requirements for control and safety systems.
Collaborate with third-party suppliers, produce subcontract specifications in partnership with procurement, and evaluate tender returns for compliance and value.
Create detailed, control- and safety-oriented proposal documents that clearly communicate key messages and differentiators, positioning Capula competitively in the energy sector.
Essential skillset:
At least five years of experience in the automation industry (digital, control, and safety) within software, hardware, or electrical engineering, with a strong grasp of engineering processes for developing and delivering successful solutions.
Tendering experience and familiarity with procurement processes, along with commercial awareness suited to the role.
Proven ability to produce thorough technical and commercial proposal documents.
Ability to meet tight deadlines.
Understanding of the energy generation and renewable sector, with a focus on software standards.
Experience with major OEMs (SCADA/PLC/DCS/Functional Safety providers) such as Siemens, Rockwell, and Schneider Electric.
Basic knowledge of cyber security standards (e.g., 62443) and their implementation
