We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Lead Welding Engineer, to be involved in an industry leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station.

Job Purpose:

The Lead Welding Engineer will be primarily responsible for pursuing the development and implementation of welding techniques delivering full capability to meet all product and business requirements across the manufacture of nuclear power plant pipework and components.

They will influence the welding strategy across the internal and external supply chain as well as the power plant build at the site factory, ensuring the selection of appropriate welding techniques, the designs are appropriate to facilitate welding including standardisation of designs across different areas of the plant and will develop standards to which processes will be qualified against.

They will support the external supply chain in the development of welding techniques ensuring ASME BPVC and additional structural integrity requirements are implemented. In addition, this person will act in a technical expert role within the business, supporting the wider Manufacturing Engineering and Engineering teams providing process expertise and depth of knowledge.

Key Results & What Can Be Achieved in The Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, justification, and application of high integrity welding techniques, setting the welding strategy for RR SMR, delivering the most appropriate solutions for the Rolls-Royce operated factory, the nuclear build Site Factory, and the supply chain. They will achieve this through effective integration with Engineering, Regulatory Authorities, Manufacturing, suppliers and the Commissioning team.

The Key Selection Criteria:

Competent in identifying, developing, qualifying and justifying welding techniques in accordance with the relevant design code, ideally within a relevant industry.

Knowledge and demonstrated experience of working to the requirements of ASME BPVC and the additional structural integrity requirements expected by UK nuclear regulation is preferred.

Demonstrates that product and process safety is of paramount importance assuring products meet all regulatory, code, design and manufacturing and Quality Assurance requirements and complying with all applicable legislation and codes of professional conduct.

Proven ability to define, plan, monitor and control projects, programmes and work packages, ensuring the work is delivered to cost, quality and schedule. As well as communicating complex technical information in a simple and effective way, whilst creating methods of manufacture ensuring delivery of manufacturing capability and business requirements and meeting design intent.

Ability to integrate well within a project team in a commercial environment. This will include working in collaboration with external partners and suppliers.

Qualifications & Training:

Professional welding qualifications are highly beneficial (e.g. International Institute of Welding (IIW) / European Welding Federation (EWF) Welding Engineer status, IEng or CEng status, MSc Welding Engineering)

Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g. UK minimum HND/foundation degree or other national equivalent) in an engineering discipline.

In lieu of the qualifications listed above a candidate with demonstrable, substantial and relevant industrial experience will be considered.

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between £66,240 - £86,940 plus:-

Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
Benefits Allowance - £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
