Fleet Services Vehicle Technician
Location: Ferndown, Dorset
Salary: Scale E - Starts at £29,109 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £33,264 per annum

Type of working arrangement: Static-Worker - A Static-Worker has little or no opportunity to work remotely as they need to carry out their work at a specific force premises, this could be for a number of reasons including the location of equipment.
Hours per week: this role is 37 hours per week. However, they welcome applications from individuals wishing to work on a part-time basis and they are willing to consider flexible working patterns subject to business need.
Fleet Services are responsible for procuring, converting, servicing, repairing, and disposing of all Force vehicles across Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Their aim is to provide a safe and efficient vehicle Fleet to meet the demands of operational policing. They have 6 sites across the counties, including 2 in Dorset, and 1,700 vehicles. Their workshops are open Monday to Friday so there is no requirement to work weekends although overtime is offered on occasion and paid at an enhanced rate which is optional.
The Role
Reporting to the Workshop Manager you will be responsible for providing timely and efficient scheduled maintenance of Police vehicles and equipment, to ensure that they remain safe, reliable, legally compliant and fit for the purpose. Duties also include completing all documentation relating to vehicle repairs and maintenance. Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety Legislation in addition to procedures as applicable to the vehicle workshops including risk assessments and COSHH regulations is key. There is also an occasional requirement to recover broken down / accident vehicles.
The person
A high degree of competence in motor vehicle service and repair, preferably to City & Guilds, Vehicle Technician or NVQ level 3 accredited standard, with post apprenticeship experience is essential to the role. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with staff and officers of all levels, along with the ability to work as part of a team is also required.
Skills and Qualifications
* To be able to evidence a high degree of competence in motor vehicle service and repair preferably to City & Guilds, Vehicle Technician or NVQ level 3 accredited standard with significant post apprenticeship experience.
* Awareness of general risk assessments, COSHH regulations and Health and Safety regulations pertinent to the vehicle maintenance industry.
* Ability to prioritise work as well as providing a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving
* Knowledge of up-to-date motor vehicle engineering, terminology and practises including diagnostic and repair techniques
* Good level of communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with staff and officers of all levels, along with the ability to work as part of a team.
* Must hold Full UK driving licence unless prevented by reason of disability. Reasonable adjustments will be considered.
* Hold a current Vehicle Inspectorate Nominated Tester Certificate or experienced to an equivalent standard.
* Good keyboard skills and computer literate with practical examples of using MS Office applications including Outlook and Word.
* Experience of working to industry repair times to an efficient and effective high standard.
