Assistant Clerk of Works

The Assistant Clerk of Works will assist the Clerk of Works with their monitoring duties on allocated schemes, undertaking regular site visits and recording and reporting on issues. You will manage small scale schemes with the assistance of the GPHG development team and the Clerk of Works. You will help manage relationships on construction sites, monitoring and advising on programme and completion dates. You will assist the Clerks of Works to ensure that the contract documents and drawings are translated into buildings which meet the standards agreed by the Association and its consultants.

What you’ll be doing

Pre Contract

Carry out research required into specifications, products and changing regulations and standards.

Assist the Clerk of Works in monitoring and ensuring quality of construction.

Where required study contract drawings and documentation inc Health and Safety plans

Maintain lines of communication with in-house team and key consultants

Carry out research and advise the Clerk of Works on building components/materials/buildability

On site

Depending on workload demands assist the Clerks in carrying out snag inspection lists prior to handover

Regular site meetings/visit site alongside the Clerk of Works

Assist in checking drawings and specifications for compliance

Ensure quality control throughout contract up to and including handover

Accurate and timely reporting of site inspections for their own schemes

Report any non-compliance with Health and Safety requirements

Keep site diary via weather, deliveries, labour and site waste for their own schemes

Defects

Attend sites as required to carry out defects inspections

Attend end of DLP inspection as required

Monitor defects and highlight any trends or areas of repetitive defects

Feedback and contribute to project review groups to assist in continuous improvement

What you’ll need

Keen interest in house building, construction quality and desire to learn from experienced colleagues

Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle for commuting to and from construction sites and meetings

A methodical and creative approach to solving queries

Organisational skills and ability to prioritise and manage own work load

Strong IT and digital skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software

Good communication skills and aligns with Great Places vision and values

Ability to work with other members of the team to deliver the best outcomes

Ability to prioritise workload and manage a number of tasks concurrently
