Our client is a leading global pharmaceutical company that manufactures a range of over the counter (OTC) and prescription medicines. Their portfolio includes essential products such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, with upcoming product licenses expanding their capabilities in cold and flu relief. The company operates across the UK and internationally, with established markets in Latin America and plans for further expansion in Europe. This role offers a unique opportunity to join the UK subsidiary of a global organisation at an exciting time of growth.
About the Role
This is a newly created position for a Director of International Trade who will play a key role in the company’s expansion into European markets. Based in the UK and working on a hybrid basis, with one to three days a week in their Watford office, this role will also involve substantial international travel with a focus on building European operations from the ground up. Reporting directly to the business owner and working closely with senior leadership in the UK and Latin America, you will be responsible for developing and executing an international strategy, managing product registrations, and establishing distribution channels across Europe.
Key responsibilities include:
Establishing a presence in European markets, from product registration to strategic partnerships with wholesalers, retailers, and pharmacies.
Driving business growth through strategic initiatives and hands-on management of sales in different countries.
Laying the groundwork for future teams in new markets and the potential of managing a future country head.
Collaborating with the Guatemala office and working with cross-functional teams to align commercial strategies.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in international trade within the pharmaceutical, OTC, or personal care sectors, with experience across multiple European markets and ideally experience within Latin America too.
Key experience includes:
International sales experience: A strong understanding of varying market regulations within the pharmaceutical industry (e.g., MHRA, FDA) and a proven track record of selling within European markets.
Pharmaceutical expertise: Background in pharmaceuticals, OTC, medicines is essential.
Drive and autonomy: The role requires a self-starter with the ambition to succeed and the ability to work independently in this stand alone role.
Spanish language skills (desirable): Although not essential, Spanish language skills would be highly advantageous for collaboration with the Latin American team. This role is an excellent fit for someone who is excited by the prospect of building a new business sector, developing strategies, and making a significant impact on the future growth of the business.
What's on Offer
Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 base, with consideration for a higher for the right experience
Performance Bonus: 10%-20% annual bonus, paid quarterly
Benefits: 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, standard pension, travel expenses paid
