The Role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Student Mentor to work with secondary-aged students. You will play a key role in building trusting relationships, promoting positive behaviour, and supporting students in overcoming barriers to their education. The ideal candidate will be experienced in managing challenging behaviour and passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
Main Responsibilities
Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and positive behaviour.
Provide one-to-one mentoring and small group support tailored to individual needs.
Support students in managing their behaviour and emotions, using de-escalation techniques where necessary.
Collaborate with teachers and other staff to implement strategies that promote student progress.
Act as a role model, demonstrating resilience and perseverance.
Essential Criteria
Previous experience working with students who have SEMH needs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
A proactive approach and the ability to use your initiative.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working in a PRU or alternative provision.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices.
Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or mentoring
