Job Title: Workshop Mechanic
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per year
Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with alternate Saturdays from 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
About the Role:
This family owned builders merchant are looking for a skilled and passionate Workshop Mechanic is required to maintain, service, and repair a variety of vehicles, machinery, and equipment. This role ensures everything runs smoothly and safely, reducing downtime and supporting the daily operations of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform routine maintenance and repairs on the fleet, including vans, lorries, forklifts, and plant equipment.
* Diagnose and fix faults in mechanical, electrical, engine, and hydraulic systems.
* Ensure all work meets safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.
* Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and maintain accurate maintenance records.
* Assist with managing parts and materials for repairs.
* Work closely with other teams, offering technical support and assisting with customer repairs when needed.
* Maintain a clean, organised workshop and ensure tools are stored correctly.

Skills & Qualifications:

Essential:
* Proven experience as a mechanic, especially with vehicles and machinery.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, engines, and hydraulics.
* Skilled in diagnosing and repairing faults on a range of vehicles and equipment.
* Experience with hand and power tools, and a solid understanding of health and safety.
* Good organisational skills, able to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable:
* Formal qualifications in Mechanics or Engineering (or equivalent).
* Experience with construction or building materials machinery.
* Forklift or HGV license.
* Electrical or welding skills.
