Registered Manager

Location:Torquay, South Devon.

Our client Next Step Independence is looking for a caring, experienced Registered Manager to lead and inspire a dedicated team, working in one of their beautiful Ofsted Registered Homes in Torquay, South Devon.

Essential Skills

* You will have a Level 3 Diploma (Children, Young People and Families) and or working towards a Level 5 Diploma.

* At least 3 years’ experience of working with children in a registered environment, and 1 year at a senior level.

* You will have a full clean UK driving licence and use of a vehicle

* Worked in a residential setting.

* Inter-agency work.

* Eligible to work in the UK.

The role

As this is a vital role in the lives of the children and young people supported by Next Step Independence, therefore it requires an active and long-term commitment. The Operations Director and other senior staff work closely with each Home Manager assisting them to provide high quality services.

The Home Manager is accountable for delivering high quality support to the children and young people resident within the home. This means that they are responsible for the delivery of all support services, as well as the strategic planning for developments within the home, including all day-to-day management matters.

Knowledge and Understanding

* Children’s Home Regulations and Quality Standards 2015, Single Social Care Inspection Framework (SSCIF), Children Act 1989, Children and Families Act 2014, Care Standards Act 2000, Children Act 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015, Health and Safety at work and associated guidance and regulation.

* Policies and procedures pertaining to running a residential children’s home.

* Child protection, safeguarding children, impact of abuse and neglect, education, and health needs of young people, equality and diversity and children’s rights.

* Care and placement planning, risk, and review processes. Understanding of the education, health, social, emotional, and psychological needs of children and young people and how to ensure these needs are met.

* Ability to lead and inspire a staff team, take responsibility for staff team training and development, supervision and rotas ensuring continuity of care for each child or young person.

* Able to manage stress and difficult dynamics and demonstrate emotional resilience.

* Capable of performing a wide variety of administrative tasks consistent with the day-to-day management of a children’s home.

* Prioritise and organise workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality, evaluating the quality of own and others’ work and raises any quality issues and related risks to the relevant person.

* To be ‘fit’ to manage a children’s home as outlined in the requirements for registration as a manager.

* Ability to sustain and work through placement issues to prevent placement breakdowns.

* Ability to monitor the service for quality of care and in line with the requirements of Ofsted inspection.

* Ability to develop constructive working relationships with the wider community and multi-agency teams.

They support children and young people aged 8-18. They achieve this through two types of services; Registered Supported Accommodation homes (16 -18) and Registered Children's Homes (8-18). They work solely in partnership with the Local Authorities to ensure the right child finds the right home.

The children and young people they support have often experienced high levels of trauma, neglect, and crisis in their young lives, resulting in them experiencing complex challenges. This can lead to multiple home moves and instability, leaving them feeling unsettled, scared and often unwanted. They provide them with a warm, safe and settled place they can call home and where they will be happy and feel inspired.

Starting salary is from £36,000 to £45,000 per year (depending on experience and qualifications).
